Credit by Demonstrated Mastery

In Onslow County Schools, the Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM) process has been used since the summer of 2014.  During these opportunities, nearly 100 students have attempted to earn high school credit through this process.  CDM allows students to have the opportunity to show deep understanding of content and processes in high school courses.  This understanding will be shown through a multi-phase process which will include an examination and a product.  Student work on each element will be assessed to determine if it reaches the level necessary to receive course credit.   Students who demonstrate mastery will receive course credit, but not grade points.

During the Spring of 2014, over 60 students attempted to earn credit through this process.  This opportunity was only available for Math I, English II, and Biology during 2013-2014.  Beginning with the 2014 school year, offerings were expanded to include most high school courses offered at Onslow County High Schools.

The timeline and information regarding the current CDM cycle can be found below.  Further documents regarding CDM including Frequently Asked Questions and Long Term Scheduling Questions are also attached below.  Please feel free to contact Michael Elder ([email protected]) or Michelle Chadwick ([email protected]) with any questions.
